According to the bible(Genesis), god created Adam, and then created Eve from a rib.
Adam and Eve had two sons, Cain and Abel.(So if Eve was created from Adam(same DNA) wouldn't that be incest?)

Rethinking Formula for Singapore Ministerial Salaries

So long as our Ministers remain paid proportional to the highest 8 earners in the 6 best paid professions, the life of Singaporeans can never be expected to be too good.
This is because then Ministers would be much too pro business, sharing the same mercenary (profit at all costs- i.e. Profit Above Principle/ 'PAP') ideals as CEOs are oft accused of.
We all know that for most part, a CEO's key KPIs are that of company profitability- which is what essentially determines their salaries.

That is because over worked and under paid low cost workers are generally most obedient to govt propaganda and have little in terms of time nor resource question government agenda.

'Filial Piety: Father and Son' sems more misleading then reassuring. The at first resentful daughter-in-law then becoming accepting of the MIL's behavior also seems schizophrenic to me.
If the MIL was indeed suffering from dementia, then the ad should have made plain clear that this was so (the DIL should have been consistently sympathetic).
This is a bad advert, more confusing then edifying, its prima-facie purpose seemingly one of imposing filial piety by authority (the father's).

Steps taken to tackle air pollutants: NEA
WE REFER to Mr Ng Ya Ken's letter ('Are we prepared?'; June 21) and the articles by Ms Victoria Vaughan ('Haze 'is bad for your heart''; June 14) and Dr Andy Ho ('Clear the air on pollutant levels'; June 19).
Fine particulate matter or PM 2.5 is an air pollutant that poses a concern to public health. Current research on it does not identify any threshold levels where adverse health effects start to occur.

[ST 19Jun2010]: Clear the air on pollutant levels (PM2.5)

Clear the air on pollutant levels
Andy Ho, Straits Times 19 Jun 10;
IN THE past half year, scientists have determined that inhaling fine air pollutant particles can actually kill people with heart conditions.
Last December, a US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) review of the best studies found this relationship to be established beyond reasonable doubt. Last month, the American Heart Association (AHA) issued a statement reiterating this 'causal relationship', saying in regard to all available data: 'At present, no credible alternative explanation exists.'

Educate people about filial piety, don't demand it
I REFER to the ongoing debate on the recent advertisement [here] to promote filial piety.
As the world progresses, the only constant is change. The family system is not spared - it is constantly in transition. But some basic tenets remain, though interpretations may vary. Love, understanding and respect for one another are some key basic tenets.

[ST 23Jun2010] FILIAL PIETY: Does ad convey right values?

FILIAL PIETY- Does ad convey right values?
THE new TV advertisement to promote filial piety [here] - spearheaded by the National Family Council and supported by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports - has left me disturbed.
While some people may find it touching, the message of filial piety seems distorted to the point of emphasising the wrong values.

Immunity should only go so far
Letter from Terence Lim Eu Seng

I refer to the commentary "The principle of diplomatic immunity is sound" (May 14).
I do not dispute the necessity of diplomatic immunity per se but it should not cover universally and obviously heinous crimes. Ambiguous legal practices or local laws in different countries may of course contribute to fear of imprisonment or retribution.
However, it would be ludicrous to suggest that diplomats need immunity from even atrocities such as rape or causing death in order to do their job well.

Thank you B.C for your comments.I appreciate your kindness in your explaination.
By the way,i am a man not a woman so i hope you will address me as Mr and not Ms in future.
I like to say that when I wrote what happen when any diplomat decided to become or involved in acts of terrorism (Not state sponsored terrorism) but personal reason or murder (again not state sponsored murder or assassination ), will he or she as a diplomat be protected by immunity.
I do not know if such incidents or crimes committed ( not sponsored by the state or governments ) will have the same result?

I have nothing against diplomats having immunity for and when caarying out official duties. However what i disagree is when diplomats abuses or have abused such immunity for comitting crimes and have caused death in other countries.

[11May2010]: The book of law should be read in spirit, from front to back and not vice versa

The key point of my opinion being the fact that the current issue at hand is mutual and linked directly to the incompetencies of both states in the handling of what is essentially a problem with their interpretations of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
It is also my an expression of my displeasure as to what I believe is SG's shockingly inappropriate application of the VCDR.

The principle of diplomatic immunity is sound

The principle of diplomatic immunity is sound
But it requires reciprocal respect by both sides for it to work the way it's meant to

AP:'Romanian former diplomat to Singapore detained over allegation of hit and run death'

AP: 'Romanian former diplomat to Singapore detained over allegation of hit and run death'

By The Associated Press (CP) – 8May2010
BUCHAREST, Romania — A former Romanian diplomat has been detained in Bucharest on charges that he killed a person in a hit-and-run accident while on duty in Singapore.
A Bucharest court will rule on whether Silviu Ionescu, a former attache at the Romanian Embassy in Singapore will be held for 29 days pending trial.

ST: '(Ionescu) Bid to stop arrest fails'

And the 'wayang-show' goes on?
He (Ionescu) said that he will go before the European Court for Human Rights to prove Romanian judges have jurisdiction in this case, if the issue is not solved in his own country.

As I said, 'Singapore should withdraw Interpol Notification, premised upon Romanian agreement ... ' so that the Interpol warrant can be left out of the equation for now as its no more than a distraction that Ionescu is capitalizing upon!!!
And then the 2 sovereigns can get on with their discussion.

Singapore should withdraw Interpol Notification, premised upon Romanian guarantee

Singapore should withdraw Interpol Notification, premised upon Romanian Government agreement that Ionescu NOT be allowed to leave home AND Romania cooperate fully under the terms of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (VCDR) to bring Ionescu to justice.

A brothel by any other name, stinks all the same.

I think TS has an extremely black and white way of looking at the world. By the time I was 16 I knew that it was anything but that.
