Not for love of money, but of Humanity. "Greater is he who works for the good of all, then he who works for the good of himself only" ~ Matthew 25:40: "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'"- (NIV). I live in Singapore where the Emperor must not be disturbed.

The latest economic opportunities available to young and old Singaporeans today.

Older Singaporeans (who are well informed) can earn 20¢ NTUC vouchers, for every 4 cans or bottles salvaged, so there is a long queue at Tampines Hub NTUC due to the volume of recyclables that the elderly have brought in at 10 locations across Singapore (50 by March

Singaporeans (69.9% of them at last count (GE2015)) vote for PAP not out of hope, but out of fear (cowardice) instead.

America's Presidential electoral college system: a severe Achilles heel.

America's Presidential electoral college system: a severe Achilles heel.

From the perspective of laws/ morals.

Communism is a legal / moral philosophy that promises fairness and care for poor: "from each his ability, to each his needs", but usually sold by dishonest tyrants who break their own promises and betray the poor the moment they are enthroned.

[Poor Health] Karma strikes ex-Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan hard.

He is a very money faced person and cares not for the poor.

As health minister, he turned healthcare in Singapore into a business as evidenced by his words:

“In three specialties alone, heart, eye and cancer, I see tens of millions of middle-class patients within a 7-hour flying radius, waiting to be served. If they can be attracted here, they will keep us all very busy." Khaw Boon Wan, October 2003.

Instead of increase GST, what other more progressive wealth tax options (e.g. Replacement for Inheritance taxes) can be considered?

Instead of increase GST, what other more progressive wealth tax options (e.g. Replacement for Inheritance taxes) can be considered?

E.g. More progressive property taxes so that for annual value above $20k onwards until $300,000, maybe the top tier annual value of property can be taxed at 60% of annual value?

Inflation is a weapon of rich people to rob and exploit poor people.

2% target inflation is generally an invention by rich people to enslave, exploit poor people.

Rich people own many properties, own shares in companies. Mostly the amount of liquid cash held by rich and poor people is about same since rich people prefer to hold little cash because they know that inflation will erode the value of cash at the rate at which they have set inflation at.

Deng XiaoPing original blueprint for HKG- China reunification, happily ever after.

Deng XiaoPing original vision for HKG- China reunification was for the two to unite as one country and establish the best of the 2 systems. Subsequent Chinese leaders betrayed his vision by suppression of democracy in HKG which caused the wealth inequality situation in HKG to go out of control.

If Lee Kuan Yew were the Chief Executive (CE) can he unite Hong Kong?

I.e. do his socialist magic like he did in 1957 onwards to confiscate land from Farmers and rich land owners for a song to build HDB (also sold to citizens for a song) http://eresources.nlb.gov.sg/history/eve...24e4cab8c6and give Hong Kongers hope by providing genuine social mobility, where every working adult can have access to affordable housing be it leasehold 99 years or just 1 year public rentals etc?

1. increase birth
- to increase supply of junior labour like part time babysitters in western countries
- to increase labour market, so mothers can stay home as housewives /caregivers for aged

2. increase childcare centres & old folk homes
how to solve labour shortage in other sectors if more housewives stay at home ?
- import more foreigners ?
- reduce economy activities ?

I think what u have just submitted is quite self contradictory. Please edit it so it can make sense.

Suffice to say, there are trade offs in any rebalancing, the true requirement being that the final outcome is better than the original to society overall.

Case for a uniform foreign worker levy (including for maids) in Singapore.

Case for a uniform foreign worker levy (including for maids) in Singapore.

pattanispirit (HWZ) said:if min wage is implemented, does that apply to maids as well ?

based on current working hr of maid, it's 6 days x 12 hrs min.

that's 72 hrs work week, which means 72-44 hr =28 hr OT, which at least 12 hrs double pay and the rest 1.5x.

if assuming yr min wage is $7 a hour, their basic should be $1,334 + 16x1.5x7 + 12x2x7 = 1334 + 168 + 168 = $1,670

can govt still implement maid levies ?

will housewives still can work part time or full time ?

will children give up their career to take care of their sick or old parent ?

if work outside earning 3k, after cpf and other expenses, what take home is just nice to pay maid.

so, uni grad, dip holder, pmet rather work at home to take care of babies & old ppl than to work for paying maids.

Before I answer your calculations, do note that there are National security implications wrt over reliance on foreign manpower for domestic chores or manual labor because one can expect these labour sources to very quickly dry up the moment civil unrest breaks out in region or in Singapore.

PAP is destroying Singapore.

Chromesthlesia(HWZ) said:actually this TS has some excellent points (at times).

But the way you speak ah, I cannot make it past the first paragraph since it's rather emotively-biased.

Example this sentence:

"The amount of $$$ yielded from these new levies and the reduced headcount at MOM should possibly cover some if not all of GST collected and maybe some more if that would make Singaporean workers and their foreign colleagues at work happier with a fairer and more just employment arrangement and thus make Singapore made products more innovative (better) and tourist more attracted to visit Singapore for it's reputation as a happy place rather than as a centrally managed economy with a novelty value the likes of North Korea, just to satisfy their lust for a sense of Schedenfrude, seeing people work their guts out here."

^This just ain't factual. My english ain't good and I myself tend to type long and winding broken sentences in the wrong grammer, but this just doesn't make sense.

If you speak in a more neutral and factual-based tone logos, I think more people will side you. With your standard of english, I presume that you have underwent an university degree. I take it that the university would have trained you to present facts and assignments in a logos tone.

Thank you for your comments.

What I am just saying is that tourists come to Singapore more out of curiosity and intrigue.

Everyone comes here to check out why our GDP grew so exponentially. Those from ex-communist countries in Asia arrive to check out the physical developments that they missed out on as communism allowed despots to destroy their own home economies. Westerns come to check out if the citizens of Singapore (with a per-capita GDP even higher than their own), are indeed as happy as the PAP government paints them out internationally to be.

MOM is the cause of structural unemployment in Singapore. (& the real reason why Minimum Wage is not legislated till now in Singapore.)

MOM is the cause of structural unemployment in Singapore. (& the real reason why Minimum Wage is not legislated till now in Singapore.)

Is simply because almost 38% of Singapore workforce is foreign and even work permit holders make up 27.4% of Singapore workforce, the majority of which may not even be Singaporean if PRs were instead counted as foreigners to begin with.

ST: HDB carparks absurdly increase carbon emissions in Singapore.

ST: HDB carparks absurdly increase carbon emissions in Singapore.

Now with electronic parking, wouldn't HDB know how many reserved parking lots that they should be, thus no need to restrict certain parking lots to season ticket holders only. Also, with every intention to go car lite, shouldn't parking charges be increased so as to decrease the demand and usage of parking spaces. Shouldn't the price of season and hourly parking be increased so that there can at all times have some vacant capacity for parking for all, with season parking rates being determined by the hourly parking rate needed to curb usage. This is important to shift the population towards going car lite like using PMD, public transportation etc.

GRC electorial system is an ABUSE of Minority Race trust in Singapore:

GRC electorial system is an ABUSE of Minority Race trust in Singapore:
Actually, even before PAP implemented GRC system of elections in 1988, PAP already implemented the NCMP scheme in 1984 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-cons...Parliament but it was probably just a decoy to the real damage to be done by the GRC scheme which would in majority benifit large incumbent political parties who already hold majority seats in parliament, especially the PAP party which would inordinately benifit from the GRC system of elections. (The GRC system allows PAP EXCO to dismiss a PAP MP from parliament by virtue of cancellation of his political party membership since such membership is a parliamentary membership requirement throughout an MP term in parliament if he was elected under such a political party banner during elections (and also absolve the GRC of undergoing by-election unless "100% of MP vacate their post" (see bottom reference))).
