Not for love of money, but of Humanity. "Greater is he who works for the good of all, then he who works for the good of himself only" ~ Matthew 25:40: "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'"- (NIV). I live in Singapore where the Emperor must not be disturbed.

Please don't conflate 'Flexibility' with having to increase GST ...$$$ does not grow on trees.

I don't know whats wrong with you, but the Haj is just an example that the government is using. People want to withdraw $$ from their CPF from a variety of reasons. Maybe they have a family emergency. Maybe they want a Holiday. Maybe they NEED a holiday. Maybe they need a new home. Maybe their family need money. Its a choice. The Haj, to Muslims isn't so much as a choice. They are compelled to go if they can.

Its like many elderly Chinese, who feels a need to go back to their former hometown. They might be born and raised here, but some people still feels that they need to visit where their forefathers were brought up. This is normal. And if CPF, which is a mandatory retirement savings scheme can help them do that, I see this as a plus.

Allowing people to withdraw their CPF does not automatically entails that GST must increase. It just means that we will have a bit more flexibility.

Malaki Osman should reflect if Islam really wants to cause hardship to all poor by increasing GST to indirectly sponsor Muslim Haj...

So must treat pilgrims like tikos and gamblers all cannot take cpf?
U very the controversial wan: purposely compare Muslim pilgrims to tikos and gamblers to produce friction and heat: I let that slip this one time, anyway, U better be careful: ISIS might be planning to kidnapp u.

Anyhow, good thing about Singapore is that even ah beng "tikos and gamblers" have to serve NS: which is where they at least learn some discipline and integratewith the rest: so our streets are generally safe from gangs and other vice activities.

Reverse mortgages URGENTLY needed to avoid burdening the poor with increased GST taxes (to help the asset-rich, cash-poor folks live it up)

Consider reverse mortgage scheme to give retirees another option | TODAYonline

PS: I believe that Mr Tan KT's explanation has jumped the gun somewhat in claiming "reverse mortgage scheme could help soak up market liquidity and boost the local economy": by which he means that property prices will fall since (with reverse mortgages) the gahmen need not give asset-rich, cash-poor folks pocket $$$ only to see their kids amassing & monopolising large property empires upon the elder's demise, all sponsored by funds collected from robbing the poor via increased GST. Refraining from increasing GST any further (plateau at 7% as current) will give the poor (who are in majority) more spending $$$, which is what is necessary to run a healthy economy and a harmonious relationship between the elected and the electorate: as opposed to GST perpetuated widened wealth divides that places the state on the verge of revolution, as was the situation building up to the French revolution: as ascribed to the uncontainable animosity between classes due to the widespread labour exploitation and unsustainable inequality in wealth distribution .

CPF minimum sum is like NATIONAL SERVICE. Singaporeans/PR of ALL RELIGIONS must comply and respect.

Paul Krugman talks rubbish and TODAY publishes it.

Krugman cracks his own jokes and laughs at them. Joke at the end of essay aboutman who cheers up is neither funny NOR has it any meaning. Krugman should just go sell drugs on the street since he has NEITHER focused NOR explained realistically the mechanics of helping the poor in ANY of his essays I have read (besides speaking in tongues for why QE is a good thing). His Nobel prize for promoting 'quantitative easing (QE)-steriods' is paid for by MNCs who love the gahmen for increasingly buying their sham bonds for a high price (and endless $$$timulus packages in both good times and bad) :... I hope puppet Mr Krugman knows what a sock-puppet he is... It is much more dangerous for him to screw up the economy in the long run than just sell some party drugs on the street. I'm quite sure that Nobel prize of his would earn him NEGATIVE karma in the next life (for worsening the already widened wealth divide) ...

AGC and IRAS pls go check how much this con-hee guy has 'harvest' for himself so far.

AGC and IRAS pls go check how much this con-hee guy has 'harvest' for himself so far... Runs a 'charity' some more: means zero GST, zero property taxes, zero church income taxes paid right? Yet creating entertainment storm that seems to make sands-entertainment blush, n still dare to announce: "... ...we have a culture in City Harvest Church, as in many companies, of keeping our income as confidential as possible."

Pte selling of freehold sites as leasehold: a dis-amenity to Singaporean home owners

Permit for individuals (natural/ legal 'person') to sell free hold sites as leasehold only serves to worsen wealth divide and distract the judiciary from more important tasks.

There are rules in Singapore for everything from the race of a GRC minority candidate (pre-specified as either Malay/ Indian and not interchangeable) to theminimum 6 months rental period for residential units so that neighbours are not inconvenienced/distressed seeing short stay strangers loitering around.

Likewise, it is a social good that freehold properties should be freely available on the open market rather than be horded by for profit companies. In the event of an enblock, who should grant permission to rebuild and at what lease period???!!! Would it be considered like a 99yr rental period whereby the lessors are at the total mercy of freehold title landlords who can agree/ disagree based on whim and fancy? What protection does the layman home owner have against cooperate greed???!!!

a way to put many things that seemingly is correlated together to spread mass pandemonium when it is not within your control. you be better focus on getting your financial foundation in order.
there are much misconception of money printing and quantitative easing. most make it seem they really understand how the economic machine works when it is such a complex subject. most of the time, they are just copying from one misleading source.
this article basically puts the singapore incumbent in cahoots with the US federal reserve and you wonder whether the singapore incumbent have that much of an influence over that of another countries federal reserve.

How Quantitave Easing makes average Joe sick, hungry and poor.

I.e. how QE induced inflation, low interest rate environment helps the rich as it disenfranchises the poor.

By rich I mean shareholders/ MNC C-suite staffers and politicians by extension since in the Singapore context, political salaries are tagged to the highest private sector salaries (I.e. CEO level salaries)
By the poor, I mean working class, retirees etc whose income is to a lesser degree from share holdings/ property rent seeking but savings/ bank savings interest in cash or kind (I.e. bank $$$ deposits)

Healthcare in Singapore: a growing sham/fraud???!!!

A letter by a kind whistle blower:
Reasons for soaring private health-care costs
"the fee-for-service model, which incentivises doctors to provide more(?excessive/ unnecessary) treatments."
