Not for love of money, but of Humanity. "Greater is he who works for the good of all, then he who works for the good of himself only" ~ Matthew 25:40: "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'"- (NIV). I live in Singapore where the Emperor must not be disturbed.

Median opportunity cost of NS= S$75,000++/pax (as implied by paternalistic PAP gahmen)...

Median opportunity cost of NS= S$75,000++/pax (as implied by paternalistic PAP gahmen)...

According to Singapore gahmen, median opportunity costs of EACH NSman in national service (Full time plus reservist liability) is S$75,000 or more.

I conclude this from the fact that: "For male citizens above 16.5 years of age who have not enlisted for NS, their parents need to furnish a bond in the form of a banker’s guarantee of $75,000, or 50 per cent of the combined annual gross income of both parents for the preceding year, if their son remains overseas for a period. - See more at: http://www.allsingaporestuff.com/art...r-not-required "

Pls do note that even after the S$75k bond is forfeited due to non-registration for NS, the individual concerned is still guilty of AWOL from NS and can be further subject to jail or other harsh punishment: which suggests that the opportunity costs of NS is actually in EXCESS of the S$75k forfeited.

Thus, each time the SG gahmen considers ways in which NSmen should be recognised, one benchmark amount (just as ministerial salaries are benchmarked to top CEO salaries) should be approx S$75,000. Easy and fair to remember isn't it?

What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander also: PAP gahmen cannot have its cake and eat it by dissociating the S$75,000 bond with what it considers a reasonable opportunity costs sacrificed through the process of undergoing national service.

Duty= no salary:
[Letter to Today] NS a duty, not a job — thus no ‘salary’: Mindef

But friends of PAP get red carpet 'guranteed' entry into parliament for a very well paying job indeed (guranteed employment, sorry, 'appointment'); being PAP MP= stepping stone to greater success?

A list of the best paid jobs in town, wonder how 'professional' these folks actually are, with their salaries benchmarked to each other and all that:

The rabid benchmarking to each other that I was talking about:
Quote:
"If the annual salary of the Minister of Information, Communication and Arts is only $500,000, it may pose some problems when he discuss policies with media CEOs who earn millions of dollars because they need not listen to the minister's ideas and proposals. Hence, a reasonable payout will help to maintain a bit of dignity."
MP Lim Wee Kiak apologises for comments on pay

Main criteria for selection to be a PAP MP= ability to assist the PM in every way possible to "fix the opposition", " buy supporter's votes"....
